Sugaring Season 2019
Today marked the start of our sugaring season!
It’s that time of the year when we are nearing the end of the winter and the sap is moving through the maple trees. When to start tapping trees is not an exact science and it takes the right weather to start the season. This season we will have over 17,000 taps and hope for a strong season.
Preparation for the season…
Last summer we replaced a 1,200 tap section and selectively harvested trees to release the crowns of prominent maple trees. Harvesting trees replenish our supply of firewood on the farm. We use the firewood to heat the evaporator and our home.
New tubing and mainline…
After the cutting was finished, we began installing new tubing and mainline. After 10 to 15 years, tubing and mainline has run its life and needs to be replaced. This means making new drop lines and putting all the connections together in the system.
Maple equipment store…
In November, we finally moved all of our maple equipment sales to our new facility. Opening the store has taken a good amount of time but we are happy to have the extra space to display product and make purchasing equipment more customer friendly! Come see our full supply of Leader Evaporator, Boshart, Tuthill, and Sugarhill equipment and supplies.
See you soon!
Soon we will be making fresh maple syrup! We welcome friends to stop by and try a fresh sample of syrup. Don’t forget that maple open house weekend is March 23rd and 24th Saturday & Sunday 9 am – 4 pm!
